Gerwyn Price, who claimed his second World Series Finals title in a thrilling final against Dirk van Duijvenbode last year, is determined to continue his winning streak. Fresh off a hat-trick of ProTour titles, the Welshman is confident and excited about the upcoming event.
Price, who holds the record for the most PDC ranking titles won in 2023, stated, “My game is in a good place. I’m feeling confident. My mind hasn’t been fully focused on darts for the last 12 months or so, but now my [newly-built] house is coming to a finish, I’m coming back into form, and I think there’s a lot more to come.”
He added, “Winning breeds confidence, so whatever tournament I’m in, I like to win, and hopefully I can build on the confidence I’ve gained from the ProTours.”
Van Gerwen’s Quest for a Fifth Crown
Dutch star Michael van Gerwen, who will headline the quartet of Dutch players in action, is aiming to lift his fifth World Series Finals crown in front of his home crowd. After taking some time off to spend with his family, Van Gerwen is eager to recharge and make a strong comeback.
Reflecting on his break, he said, “Sometimes you have to recharge the batteries to give you fresh energy for the rest of the season, and that is how I feel now. There are so many important tournaments coming up, so I need to make sure my game gets to where I want.”
Van Gerwen acknowledged the extra pressure of playing on home soil and emphasized the need to start strong and avoid mistakes in order to secure victory.
Exciting Matches and Legendary Comebacks
The tournament promises thrilling encounters right from the start, with Friday’s first round featuring eight matches. One of the most highly anticipated clashes is between Dutch players Danny Noppert and last year’s runner-up Dirk van Duijvenbode. The winner of this showdown will face World Matchplay champion Nathan Aspinall in the last 16.
Dutch legend Raymond van Barneveld will also make his return to home soil after his comeback in 2021. He will face Jeff Smith in the first round, with the winner going on to challenge World Champion Michael Smith for a spot in the quarter-finals.
