Max Hopp and Leighton Bennett progress to Final Stage of PDC Qualifying Schools
Germany’s Max Hopp and teenage talent Leighton Bennett headlined the list of 16 players to automatically progress to the Final Stage of PDC Qualifying Schools on Wednesday.
Day Three of 2024 PDC Qualifying Schools saw the First Stage action conclude in Milton Keynes and Kalkar, as hundreds of hopefuls continued to battle for the chance to compete on the PDC circuit in 2024-2025.
In the First Stage, which took place from January 8-10, players from around the world competed to qualify for the Final Stage, where 31 Tour Cards will be up for grabs from January 11-14.
Eight players per day advanced from the First Stage at each venue, with the remaining spots going to players from a First Stage Order of Merit in each region.
Max Hopp secures European Qualifying School spot
Former World Youth Champion Max Hopp was the standout performer at the European Qualifying School, winning through to the last eight. Hopp, a winner of two PDC ranking titles, overcame Martijn Dragt in a thrilling last 16 encounter. He also defeated Marko Kantele in a last-leg shoot-out and Dmitriy Zhukov 5-1 earlier in the day.
Hopp was joined in the Final Stage by his fellow countrymen Kai Gotthardt and Franz Roetzsch, as well as Dutch duo Davy Proosten and Stefan Schroder. Other notable qualifiers include Denmark’s Benjamin Reus, Greece’s John Michael, and Japan’s Ryuta Arihara.
Leighton Bennett shines at UK Qualifying School
In Milton Keynes, 18-year-old Leighton Bennett put on a dominant display, conceding just eight legs in his five matches to secure his place in the Final Stage. He was joined by Henry Coates, Scott Taylor, and Rhys Griffin as automatic qualifiers.
Notable names to advance via the First Stage Order of Merit include three-time World Champion John Part, UK Open semi-finalist Alan Norris, and New Zealand duo Ben Robb and Haupai Puha.
Final Stage and Tour Card allocation
The Final Stage of the Qualifying Schools will take place from January 11-14. A total of 31 PDC Tour Cards will be on offer, with the daily winners in the UK and Europe receiving automatic Tour Cards.
The remaining Tour Cards will be allocated to players from the UK and European Q School Final Stage Orders of Merit. A further 13 Tour Cards will be available via European Q School, while the top ten players from the UK rankings will also earn Tour Cards.
Any ties in the Q School Orders of Merit will be split based on leg difference, legs won, and DartConnect average. If players still cannot be separated, a play-off will be organized.
